My friend created a Minecraft server last week. I've been playing on it regularly, but last night I logged out to get something to drink. When I tried logging back in, it said that it couldn't reach the server. This is the second time this has happened. Both times, the server has still been up, I just can't reach it.
My friend is away from his place, so I can't have him just reset the server, but I want to figure out why it's happening altogether to avoid it later on. If it's something on his end, I'll pass the message along to him, I just want to be play. Thanks a lot.
Tell him to do an ipconfig command in the cmd. Then, check his ipv4 adress. I don't know how much you know about server administration but the ipv4 adress is the one that the port forwards to. Occasionally, that adress will change and the port forward won't work. Think of it like the computer is changing its name and the server doesn't know who to send the info to anymore. Your friend would just have to change the address in the port forwarding console in the router.
