Please help, I recently started a Minecraft private server I followed all the instructions, port forwarded my IP everything. But it still won't work, I can connect to my server but others can't. It just says "Connection..." "Connection timed out:Connect". Here's my server properties thing:

motd=poptarts minecraft server I'm 99% sure my PC is capable, I'm running windows 7. I'm sure I port forwarded the ports correctly but if you could give me a reliable way to check that would be awesome. Thank's for any help guys if you need more info just let me know!
Thank's guys I will defiantly try that when I get back. I have it set to use my external IP in the server files and under port forwarding I have it set to use both UDP and TCP. But I will check the Firewall.
My is doing the same thing. I enabled the Query for a Server Banner. Then I tried to log on.. It didn't work. It acted like it was Offline.
Please help me too..
a LOT of people are having this problem where their servers, both vanilla and modded, haven't been working properly. I wonder if it has to do with the 1.6.2 update
Make sure you selected TCP & UDP are on, if they are, make sure you are connecting from the correct IP, you can fine it here, www.ipchicken.com finally if that does not work, check your fire wall, and be sure to enable connections through other computers, if you still have no luck, it is most likely that you have an out dated modem.
Soo...it's not just me?Do you guys have a problem when you have your ports forwarded, your ip is correct, everything is good, you can connect, but nobody else can?I had a modem upgrade so i'm not sure that would do anything.(Cause my external and internal IP is the EXACT same before)Anyone know the issue to this mad house??

What's the firewall blocking? I need to allow it to run publicly but i do not know what I'm supposed to be allowing to run?

Now for a limited time you can try Mirkwood for free for a month. Mirkwood is not for everyone, especially children, women who are pregnant, or may become pregnant. Side effects include: nausea, vomiting, loss of bowel control, urges to speak German at random moments, explosive radiation poisoning, mutation, itchy, watery eyes, protein denaturalization, high fever, gooifying, potty-mouth, loss of charisma, and death. You must be 18 or over to be eligible to take Mirkwood. Ask your doctor if Mirkwood is right for you.

This is annoying, I agree. When I first set up server and ran it, others could connect to it. One restart later, nobody can connect to it, although the port is open and my ip hasn't changed. The program is allowed through the firewall and hell, I didn't change anything from the first time people were able to join it. Running Win7 here, and I have never had an issue with running servers off my computer before like this.
Going to try to delve deeper into this issue, but damn if this problem isn't the .exe itself!
EDIT:
Welp, I had to uninstall Hamachi to make it work. The port is free and clear now, and no issues for people to connect to it.
I see your issue, where you have your IP under "server-ip", remove the IP. I did the same thing when I first made a server, remove the IP from there and try again.
sadly i have this problem as well, ive been trying to port forward for almost a year not mojang needs to help people with this as it is basically the only reason people play mc, am i right? (i mean that everyone loved to play with their friends)
Anyone considered where are ports forwarded to (require networking knowledge of DHCP service in routers)? And anyone considered how certain operating systems has firewalls, and services designed to prevent viruses and stuff, but gone too much in it, so it needs to be dissabled completly in order to let minecraft work?
Thats not problems that Mojang needs to resolve, he didn't make the problems. Guys who make your operating systems make those problems, and lack of networking knowledge is not actualy a problem when you learn something about it. Stop nagging, and hit the books.

TAKE CHANCES. TELL THE TRUTH. KISS SLOWLY. DATE SOMEONE TOTALY WRONG FOR YOU.
SAY NO. LOVE DEEPLY. FORGIVE QUICKLY. SPEND ALL YOUR CASH.
GET TO KNOW SOMEONE RANDOM, BE RANDOM. SAY I LOVE YOU. SING OUT LOUD.
FORGET THE PAST. REMMEMBER WHAT IT TOUGHT YOU. LAUGH AT STUPID JOKES.
CRY. APOLOGIZE. TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU.
TELL A JERK WHAT YOU THINK.LAUGH TILL YOUR STOMACH HURTS.
Remove your IP from the area that says Server IP. This is meant to be left blank.Once you remove the IP, restart your server and it should be done! Make sure you have your external IP, so that others can log onto your server.

This.
I really find it annoying how people blame Mojang because they don't know how to use the Advanced side of Netoworking & Computers.
To everyone else;
If your server isn't working, your welcome to ask around, but DONT blame Mojang just because you dont know how to do stuff.
I'm having the problem where people outside my network can not connect to my server. HILLARIOUSLY enough it's NOT my ports. I have two computers I run the server from. One, shows up for them, the newest one that I tried to run the server on does not show up. so I know!!! that it's NOT my ports in my router! I've tried turning the firewall on that computer completely off and friends still can't connect, but I can connect through internal IP address.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Also, I use this to check to see if my server is available to others:

and this to check on the status of minecraft itself:
