Ok, so yesterday i had bright house come out and upgrade my internet. I asked the technician if the IP address would change and he said it wouldnt. I run my own small server. He was wrong. I went to whatsmyip.org to check. then when i went into minecraft to start playing i checked the old ip, it didnt work, and i typed the new ip in. it also dont work. i get "Failed To Connect To Server" Java.net.socket exception: Permission denied:connect.

I went and redid everything with my router the way i had done before to get it to work and i get the same thing. Now if i type in the local IP i can get on, but if i log onto a different network, Nothing works. I get news at startup also, if that helps. any ideas on what i need to do?

Going into Control Panel > Programs > Java

In the java control panel, Under the Java tab, hit the view button. Then copy and paste this into the Runtime Parameters line.

-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

Also, make sure you don't have any program blocking the connection.

on the server computer right?

OK, i did it, but it comes up the same thing. There isnt anything blocking it unless my isp is blocking it.

If you run the server, then in the server.properties leave the ip blank; and in minecraft try connecting using this as the IP: "localhost"

i can connect to it using the local ip on my own network. but if i use a different network i cannot. neither can my friend in CT.
