I've been trying to set up some Alpha and Beta servers too, using the jars I downloaded from Minecraft Version Changer. They run fine, but I get the same error, and so do my friends. I'm still looking to see what server.jars will work. So far I've tried up to beta 1.3_01
I'm trying to run a beta 1.4_01 and I'm getting the same problem. Some people said to turn online_mode to false but that didn't work either. If anyone has the answer that would be great. (also a side note, I'm using bukkit and it's 1.4 not 1.4_01 but I figured that it might work)
no, thats not the problem, its something to do with migrated accounts probably.
Nope. Same for me while trying to log into a Beta 1.2_01 server, and I wasn't migrated. Rather, I've been testing a bit on different versions of Beta servers, and turning the server to offline mode fixes the problem. This implies that the minecraft.net verification service no longer works for old versions of Minecraft (most likely all versions from before official launch). As offline mode is less secure than online mode, this isn't a very good fix, but it works. I guess the only thing we can do is ask the guys over at Mojang to reintroduce Beta/Alpha server support
I know a fix! If you are the one running the server you must change online mode to false in the server properties. But if you do this, people can only connect if you are using Hamachi or something like it, they wont be able to connect if its a port forwarded server and you use this fix.
all you gotta do for anyone reading this thread and since it is out of date and most people have this error, just edit your batch file that is called "run" or "start" and make it have this code.
@echo off
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar
pause
really all you have to do is add "@echo off" to the top! thanks!
Success! ^^^^ This feature has now been added into Minecraft!

That means your friend is logging in as your account
Doesn't work for me, bump.
