Every time i press join server on a server it freezes for about one minute, then it joins, but it's getting really annoying. It doesn't say the server message under the name of it. Someone please help, and my mine craft is updated to 1.3.1 and the servers i'm trying to join are 1.3.1 and i try joining with all my settings on the lowest they can get. I'm going to rage and break my computer soon...
Ok, so my mine craft is perfectly fine except for multiplayer, i click on a server (that's 1.3.1) then my mine craft freezes, can't click anything, after about 1 minute it unfreezes and says 'Connecting To Server...' then doesn't connect to the server, it doesn't say Logging In, or anything and eventually it says Connection Lost. I hope that's enough information. Thanks.

Mine is doing the same thing but when i click to join it freeze for a little while then joins the server. I'm guessing its something to do with 1.3.1!
Whats your computer's specs? Startup> accessories >system tools>system information. Cpu/Processor, Ram and GPU. Also definitely try optifient and connecting directly to your router on a hardline rather than wifi if you already are not.
Here is some specifics on the problem (I'm having it too.)
I get on and it wants me to update to 1.3.1, but I don't and check to make sure that the server I play on isn't still using 1.2.5. It says that my client is outdated, so I restart minecraft and update to 1.3.1. I try to connect to the same server, but when i press "Join Server" it freezes. After a few minutes, it unfreezes and connects at the usual speed. I have no other issues, although the before said problem is still occuring.
My computer specs are:
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU
RAM: 4 GB installed physical memory, 1.59 of that is available

My specs are,
Processor: CORE i5
RAM: 10gb
Graphics: Radeon graphics 1gb dedicated graphics.
I think that's all i know.
Yeah im having the same problem even when Optifine was downloaded. It's probably something wrong with 1.3.1. Please let me know if you have a solution!
I have the same problem, i have a macbook pro 13" with a2.66 GHz intel core 2 dua processor, $ GB 1067 MHz ddr3 memory. it freezes every time i hit "join server" and it also asks if i would like to accept incoming network connections.
I think this has nothing to do with issues of a too slow pc or hardware issues.
It has to do with minecraft.net and the login server being down:
Ocassionally its frozen at "Logging in..." and at other times it provides this:
java.io.IOException: Server returned response code 503 for URL: http://session.minec....jsp?user=<your user name>&<more url parameters with server details>
I think that the code is not well written by not having the network connection being done in a seperate thread from that controling the GUI causing this freeze.
We just have to wait until the servers are up again and also hope that the code is rewritten to circumvent freezing.
The other possibility - if you run a private server you connect to - is to change its mode to LAN so it does not need those calls. We are running such a server and the server owner changed the mode and now we can log in. Only works on a local area network or on a virtual network like you get it with hamachi.
Yeah, it's definitely something to do with 1.3.1, no doubt, cause i change versions to 1.2.5 and connect to a 1.2.5 server, no problems it's fine. I can't be stuffed to play mine craft any more because of this >-<
Guys! This doesnt freeze on my other server!
Lets see here. First I have 2 servers, Server1= with the freezing bug/ Server2= without the bug
Server 2 has bukkit 1.3.1 and it has 20 plugins too.
Server 1 has bukkit 1.3.1 and it has about 40 plugins.
I dont know why this happens.
and NO it isnt a plugins issue! Its with 1.3.1,because I tried the official server client from Minecraft.net
This is SO weird
Ive already made a topic about this but no one responded so imma post whats happening to me right now...Basically i run my own server and it was working perfectly until a few days ago when ever ii would log in to my own server it would login and i could move for litterally 2 seconds and then it would freeze and id have to open task manager and shut off minecraft from there. Today my friend came over and when he logged on it worked perfectly!!!!! Please help me soon it kills me to not be able to go onto MY OWN minecraft server
I'm no expert, and I'm not even sure how you would go about doing this, but I think that the reason for your minecraft freezing up when you hit connect to server is because minecraft is still trying to find a LAN world instead of connecting you to the multiplayer server you asked for. So something you might try doing is disabling the automatic scan for LAN worlds when you go onto the multiplayer menu, or rewriting it so that you have to toggle the scan (I have no idea how to do this or if it would even work, just an idea for people to try out.)
There is no need to rage quit, I'm here to help you I just need you to supply me with more info. This isn't enough info. for me to help you.
