I just downloaded Minecraft on my laptop, I have been playing on mobile for years but me and my friends want to stream so it made sense to play on my laptop. Their are three of us. One plays both but my other friend is still on mobil thus I need to play bedrock https://vidmate.onl/ . I payed for both but I can only join Java.
You're able to change between them on the launcher, bedrock is listed just as "Minecraft" because Microsoft sees it as the main form of the game (sadly).
As allyourbasesaregone said it's playable through the launcher
do not be fooled here as bedrock edition comes with some restrictions Java edition does not and you should consider them before deciding on playing bedrock edition of the game, of course I recommend bedrock edition for vanilla players, as it is better optimized, but I'd like people to inform themselves first so they know what they're in for.
Bedrock edition is more limited in the way of mods, you can blame Microsoft's Xbox Live terms of service for that as they mandate that you update the game in order to play it online, potentially breaking any mod for this edition of the game, if you have any experience with mods on Java you'd know what I mean.
Bedrock edition also doesn't allow loading older versions in the launcher like you can with Java edition, this means you cannot just install and load Minecraft 1.16, 1.13 or earlier versions of the game using Microsoft's own launcher app, what you get is what you get and you're stuck with it, which means you don't get the best of both worlds in bedrock edition, there's a tradeoff and it may not be one that you'd be pleased with.
If you don't have the option to play bedrock, then you're likely using the legacy client. But if that is the case, it should tell you this by saying "incompatible with launcher" along with a notice that has a link to get the one from the Microsoft store.
okay, so the launcher was kinda made for Java edition and Bedrock is Microsoft's vision of how things should be thus, if you need to download Bedrock or even play it you might need to find it on the Microsoft store page and download It from there. hope this helps!
