My sons play 2 player split screen all the time. As you know, when you turn on the 2nd controller the split screen automatically comes up. Now all of a sudden, it doesn't come up and doesn't detect the 2nd controller at all. Anyone ever heard of this? HELP, the boys are fighting!!!!! LOL
LOL, WOW..... 14 views and not one reply. I guess this wasn't an easy one.....lol. Good thing I figured it out on my own, and hoping this may help someone else in the future with the same problem, so I'll post my solution. It had everything to do with the TV setting being set to 720p or higher output, mine was set to 420p and it was too low. Just not enough to take a split screen. Now I have it set to 1800 something and working fine again. Not sure how it all of a sudden got changed to a lower output but just glad I figured it out. No more fighting now, and everyone can play. Thank God
i had this problem and i just fixed it after a while messing with everything, I went under the main screen for ps3 and went under settings scroll down to display settings select video output settings select HDMI, select automatic, push yes then X and finish, Good luck
This is a PS3 controller you know... they do not take batteries
All you have to do is make sure you ps3's output settings atch your TV's output settingd, wether it be 720p or 1080p... 720p is the lowest setting for MCPS3 splitscreening
Okay so I know the OP resolved the issue, and she is correct regarding what the issue is (video resolution mode) however simply switching the HDMI settings to automatic does not always resolve this. I had my ps3 connected via HDMI in 1080p mode for several months and today it decided I its own it wouldn't do split screen anymore. Switching HDMI mode to on did not work, I got a blue screen for thirty seconds until it automatically reverted. So what I did was go into the settings and hit restore default settings. I don't know if the kids changed something or what, but after restoring the settings the system rebooted and gave me the prompt to use HDMI mode. I didn't lose any save data I just had to reconfigure the Wi-Fi and sign back into the playstation network. So yeah, that fixed it. And I have the play online box unchecked in Minecraft, not sure if that makes a difference but I've read it needs to be off for local split screen.
I think I know how. I did not have this problem but something very similar, 3 people play on my split screen but my sisters controler kept glitch in and wasn't working right so I unplugged the ps3 and plugged it and it worked! Hope I helped.
I changed the video settings to normal and also did the hmi settings and it is back to normal. I'm guessing since we have all had this proublem, that an update is what caused it to change the settings.

I have it on high definition mode but I still can't play multiplayer
I know this is an old question but I feel compelled to reply.
I connected my ps3 to my TV via HDI.
NEXT, changed my display settings to HDI.
Then, restarted my ps3.
I can now play with two players. 😊
I hope I helped.
