I created a survival world a while ago and made it where I couldn't use cheats or commands so that I wouldn't "cheat" myself out of the old-school experience. The problem is that I now want to use things like armour stands in decorative ways, however, that requires me to use commands. How do I give myself the ability to use commands in an already created world without re-creating it or messing something up and losing all my work?
If you want to permanently enable cheats (commands) use a tool like NBTExplorer to open level.dat and change the value of "allowCommands" to 1 (true), otherwise you'll have to open to LAN to enable them every time you want to use them (it only persists for the session, but any changes made, including to game rules, are permanent).

Open the world to LAN with cheats enabled.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
