I was trying to play Minecraft, however, when I tried to launch it I ran into error 65542:
GLFW error 65542: GLX: No GLXFBConfigs returned.
Please make sure you have up-to-date drivers (see aka.ms/mcdriver for instructions)
This was on my uncle's comp, so he did the following:
1- did basic driver updates via terminal
after that we tested and it still didn't work
2- went to aka.ms/mcdriver
3- used that to go to the website that his driver was on
4- installed the most up-to-date drivers from that website
after that we tested and it still didn't work
Any tips/tricks to get MC working on his comp again?
He runs linux (or ubuntu, not sure... but he uses the Zoron distribution), it's not Windows nor MacOS.
Older versions don't give error message, but don't launch either.
NVIDIA Corporation GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050]
that's the graphics that are used.
until recently I did not have this issue... and I've played 1.16-1.18 plenty before... even the one-block at a time update I've played before... but now none will launch, and only the newest 1.19 pre-releace 2 seems to show the error messages?
not sure if my uncle would be up for that (that takes root perms, so he has to do it as it's his comp), last time, when he updated via the website, he had issues with his other monitors not working (he uses 3 for 1 desktop)... I doubt he'd be willing to downgrade

after I exit 65542, error 65545 pops up:
Add your PC specs (GPU/GPU)
Maybe your GPU does not support newer OpenGL versions
Does Minecraft 1.16.5 or older work?

Maybe Minecraft is not using the Nvidia GPU
Make sure the java version running in high-performance mode

please remember, I'm using linux, not Windows!
This should work, too
Open the Nvidia Control Panel - 3D-Settings
Add recent uses programs - check for Java and set the high-performance mode

Is this this the control panel you mean? if so, where do I go, if not, I'm not sure what you mean?
Looks quite different, but I think this is the right one
Take a look at this:

oof, sadly that didn't work... did it all, tried to run mc, restarted, tried to run mc, both times it showed the same errors
Maybe try to install an older Nvidia driver

Is the monitor (cable) you are using directly connected to the Nvidia GPU output at your system?

can you tell me how you would respond to each answer? as I don't know and will need to ask my uncle when he wakes up.
If Minecraft is running as a flatpak then you need to open a terminal and use this command
flatpak update
