just made an account just for this because i dont know what else to do. with minecraft i KNOW i should be getting MUCH more fps than i should be getting, even with my old graphics card. just a few days ago i got a 3070ti and the highest ive seen is 180ish and even with my 1660 i was getting about 150. my cpu is a ryzen 5 2600, i have 32gb of 3200mhz ram as well and tried increasing the dedicated ram for the game, even tried optifine and not much over 200. tried setting affinities for the game too and all nothing. please help. :/
I don't even know why you would go higher than your monitor max framerate, maybe you wish to also heat up your room? A standard monitor gets 60 frames, a ultrafast gaming monitor gets 120. Higher than that and you get two things: tearing¹ and excess heat from GPU and CPU
¹ Tearing is the effect you get when a certain amount of your monitor is displaying a frame and the rest is displaying next frame, in Minecraft is not a big problem (unless you're flying in spec or with elytra) but it tends to be annoying nonetheless.
do you not know that most modern gaming monitors are at 144hz, and monitors can get up to 165, 240, 360 even? and i have more than enough of cooling for my pc.
my goodness palin, did you buy you account from someone? There's quite a lot wrong with your reply there. Firstly, some "ultrafast gaming monitor" that is. 120 is pathetic for "ultrafast" nowadays. Secondly, as someone who plays mc at ~200 fps, I have never experienced screen tearing. Thirdly, a higher frame rate allows for much smoother inputs, "bragging rights", and as you've stated, a warmer room (however this would only happen if your pc's cooling is hot [pun intended] garbage).
I have seen Linux users with nVidia graphics cards (nVidia GPUs + Linux is a textbook example of how to get screen tearing). They can get thousands of FPS and perfect visuals.
[...] maybe you wish to also heat up your room? [...] excess heat from GPU and CPU [...]
I don't know what it is with people and hot rooms. I've never seen it get that bad. I have a server running 24/7 in my study and if I leave the AC off, the temperature in the room does not exceed 20°C (68°F) (It usually sits around 18°C (~64°F)). As a bonus, my PC (In the same room) has rubbish cooling, with the CPU sitting between 60°C and 90°C as I use it. No effect on room temperature.
And yeah, 144 Hz is a baseline for gaming these days. I'm still faithful to 60 Hz because I see no real need spending the extra money for "gaming" equipment.
Getting low FPS can be for a number of reasons, and has a lot of optimisations you can make - depending on how much you'd like to sacrifice on graphics.
For some non-visual changes, download and install OptiFine (There are pre-releases for 1.17 already), set Advanced OpenGL to Fast, tweak all settings in Video Settings > Performance, to name a few.

I've seen people having tearing in front of their eyes and not seeing it.
That said, smoother inputs with higher frame rate only counts something if you play pvp and have a network connection with the server to match, in Minecraft everything else moves at 20 tps, including mobs, so 60fps is quite enough.
That said, if you like the “warm” feeling of having your CPU and GPU at 100% every time, it's ok.
By the way, the fastest monitors I can see on the market are 4k resolution @144 FPS. Pretty overkill for minecraft and at 4k Minecraft is quite taxing for high end pc's even with default 16x16 resolutions.
Please leave 2004, computers can run Crysis on max settings now. Minecraft's textures may be 16x16, however the game itself is 3d. Because of that, a higher resolution display makes the game look WAY better and can help see smaller things or things that are far away. Also smoother inputs and higher framerates are just nice to have, not all casual players are perfectly content with their Grandma's 2011 laptop running Minecraft with Optifine on the lowest settings in windowed mode at 10 FPS.

First of all, I can run my game at the default size (854x480) at 60 FPS; whereas fullscreen (1920x1240 (20px for the taskbar, 20px for the window title)) gets me 20 FPS. Resolution of the game window does have a significant impact on framerate.

It was my dad's.
There was more than just OptiFine.
All settings are the lowest except for sensitivity and volume.
I get 15 FPS.
