I'm using mods. Forge / MC version 1.15.2, so it's the old Nether. All my mods are Overworld-focused. I don't have any mods that affect the Nether specifically or make large changes to it, just some broad mods that affect a handful of things like adding stalactites / stalagmites, adding a couple new mushrooms, small stuff like that. I'll include a list, if needed.
I went to the Nether once before, already, but everything was fine. I just popped in and out to grab some glowstone, and now it's acting all fubar'd.
Every time I go to the Nether, first, I pre-load in. I call it pre-loading because the 'clothing' layer on my skin doesn't load in at first, chunks are loading in, my toolbar is empty, and mob AI isn't working yet. IDK if there's an actual technical term for what that is, sorry.
Then everything loads in, and everything looks fine, mostly. Zombie Pigmen will turn but they don't move around. I haven't seen any Ghasts or other enemies (EDIT: though I've heard Ghasts a couple times,) the portal spawned in a pocket I'll have to mine out of.
Whenever I try to mine a block, the block vanishes and nothing drops. When I try to go back to the Overworld, it gives me the purple 'warping' overlay, but does nothing. I just stand there staring at purple.
The only way out is to force-quit the game, when I try to quit out normally it gets stuck on 'Saving World'. When I come back into the game, it places me in front of the Nether Portal in the Overworld as if I never went in in the first place.
Just tried it out, but no luck. When I went back to the Nether, the exact same thing happened, except now there are no Zombie Pigmen at all and I can't hear the Ghasts outside the pocket I spawned in anymore, so I assume they're gone, too.

I know just enough about how Java/Minecraft works to download Forge and plonk in some mods. Could you explain this to me like I'm a third-grader?

What the hell is happening and how do I fix it?
(Post edits made for spelling and formatting.)
Did you test it with deleting the Nether dimension to reset it?
So just remove the DIM-1 folder from your worldsave
If it is happening again, add the latest.log from your logs-folder with paste.ubuntu.com
