I saved my minecraft world to a USB because I was doing a fresh install of windows. I have transferred the file to my saves folder and now I cannot open it because it is saved as a 32 file. Is there anything I can do to recover this world?
I followed a guide that said to drag the world folder and drop it onto a usb drive. I suspect that the file is compressed because it is 89.6 MB in size but I do not know how to un-compress it.
I have no idea what those files are, they certainly aren't anything at all like a normal world, unless the "New World(1)" folder in the first screenshot is the world itself (also, where did you get a size of 89.6 MB from? I see a folder and a file which is 16 MB). Assuming you just copied the files like any other file (no compression or other tools) I can only say that the drive got corrupted, or you aren't showing the entire contents (as said before, the size of the files doesn't match with the size you say they were, it is also strange that unpacking a 16 MB file produces two files that are only 193 KB; this suggests that there are hidden files). It is also odd that the 16 MB file has the Minecraft launcher icon; are you sure that this is a Java edition world (I have no idea what a Bedrock edition world looks like).

im gonna guess that is the minecraft executable file for java and not a world as when you extract a exe file it just makes two smaller files similar to that in some cases. just move new world (1) to were ever the worlds are on your pc often its in \roaming\.minecraft copy and paste: %appdata%\.minecraft and hit enter in explorer
%appdata% is a shortcut to C:\user\"your user name"\AppData\roaming which is a normally hidden file!

did you drag and drop it on the drive? or use a backup program? compress it? is there other numbered files?

Here is what it looks like https://imgur.com/a/Ha27vEc
make a copy on the desktop and try opening it with 7-zip if its not encrypted or corrupted it has a good chance of opening it
I have extracted the files, resulting in the unpacking of 2 files. However, I do not think these files are correct. https://imgur.com/a/TL6krsM

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
