For the past week or so I've been dealing with intense lag on Minecraft alone and have tried almost everything to fix it. (Lowering render distance, allocating RAM, reinstalling Minecraft, deleting .minecraft folder, playing with and without optifine and reinstalling Java.) I am still only getting around 30-40 FPS. If anyone has any advice please share.
Are you using a laptop? The game may be running on integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU (your screenshot shows Intel graphics); if so you can force it to run on the dedicated GPU:
I tried to go through the NVIDIA control panel but it doesn't have the same options that the website says it should, mine is missing most of them. I am on a desktop, more specifically the Alienware Aurora R9. I did not try the second thing you said in the parenthesis because I have no idea what it means.
In the launcher go to "Installations" and edit your profile
At "Java Path" you can change the path to the new Java version:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\javaw.exe

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Mine says "jre1.8.0_271" in my files. I set the path the same way though, no change in the amount of lag.
Lower your render distance.
I had it set to 2 but it didn't help.
