A friend of mine has been having this problem for weeks now, and he and I have been trying to troubleshoot it in off time.
We've updated his graphics drivers. Tried running from a different user on the computer, completely purged/uninstalled and deleted all traces of the game and reinstalled from scratch. Made sure his Java was up to date. All of it.
Upon launching, the game starts trying to load in, but just crashes without any real ceremony "An unexpected error has occurred and the game has crashed". I'm fairly technically minded, but without being there in person, I'm at wit's end. To top it all off, his computer will run older versions of the game, modded versions of the game, and even 1.14 snapshots. But the current version refuses to load. Can't even get to the main menu. Just a crash back to launcher.
Here is the pastebin for the log file. Seems to be an OpenGL thing, but I've never had to go deep into troubleshooting these before, so some help would be appreciated.
Say something silly, Laugh 'til it hurts, Take a risk, Sing out loud, Rock the boat, Shake things up, Flirt with disaster, Buy something frivolous, Color outside the lines, Cause a scene, Order dessert, Make waves, Get carried away, Have a great day!
Actually, managed to get it. A thanks to Big_Bad_E for reminding me that overlays and streaming things like to fight with programs.
It was some streaming service he had called player.me or some such.
So, for anyone browsing this on google looking for a solution down the road. Check anything that records, streams, or runs an overlay.
A mod can feel free to close this thread. Thanks everyone for your support.

Moderatorpost the full crash report, also a dxdiag log
It didn't generate a separate crashlog. That's literally where the log ends.
Post your DxDiag log here. http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/pixel-format-not-accelerated/support/
