This is a continuation to a previous thread of mine (lag spikes each time I perform a task). I’ve bumped it a few times and since nobody was responding I decided to make a separate one...
So I was told in my previous thread that these lag spikes were due to Java taking time to loading files and assets into the game, causing those. Does it have something to do with the fact I’m playing on an old PC?
Once again, my specifications:
HP Pavillion dv6000/dv6700 Notebook PC
4GB RAM DDR2
Intel Core 2 Duo @2.00GHz
Intel i965 Graphics Chipset (That’s the least I can remember for the graphics card, sorry.)
Ubuntu Linux 18.04 LTS
Oracle Java 8 (Cannot remember the exact version as well, sorry. In the past, I tried upgrading it and it still had no effects.)
Any feedback or response would be much appreciated.
Just figured out that when I'd turn 8 years old, the 23th of November 2011, my parents could have offered me Minecraft as a birthday gift. Sigh...
Fun but frustrating platformer. Saves me of boredom when I don't feel like playing Minecraft. Knowledge of 8-bit old-school videogames is optional tho'.
I already know about that. I already checked the system requirements for Minecraft 1.13+.
Oh and sorry but “your PC is too old” is not gonna answer my question at all. We don’t have the money for a new one...so I’m sticking with this. I’m actually fine with running the game at 20fps on a good day.
I’m pretty sure it’s a Java-related issue because I get lag spikes each time I perform a specific task (breaking a specific block, killing a specific mob...)

Better play an older version of Minecraft if you want better performances.

You were lucky it was working at all. Meanwhile, this computer belongs in a museum.

As mentioned before, you could try an older version; 1.6 can even run on an ancient Pentium 4 from 2000 with the recommended hardware being from the early 2000s:
Minecraft system requirements Last Updated: Jul 06, 2013 11:47PM CEST
Minimum Requirements:
CPU : Intel P4/NetBurst Architecture or its AMD Equivalent (AMD K7)
RAM : 2GB
GPU : Intel GMA 950 or AMD Equivalent with OpenGL 1.2 Support
HDD : At least 90MB for Game Core and Sound Files
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 or up is required to be able to run the game.
Recommended Requirements:
CPU : Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
RAM : 4GB
GPU : GeForce 6xxx or ATI Radeon 9xxx and up with OpenGL 2 Support (Excluding Integrated Chipsets)
HDD : 150MB
Also, this gives you some idea of how much more resource intensive the game has become - this is just for 1.7, possibly in preparation for 1.8 (they did not update them when 1.8 was officially released), which caused many users with older computers to have major performance issues (myself included; in particular, my GPU more than met the previous recommended but failed to meet the new minimum):
Minecraft system requirements Last Updated: Feb 20, 2014 07:46AM CET
Minimum Requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
RAM: 2GB
GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics or AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon HD Graphics with OpenGL 2.1
GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1
HDD: At least 200MB for Game Core and Other Files
Java 6 Release 45
Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
HDD: 1GB
Latest release of Java 7 from java.com
Minimum Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i3-3210 3.2 GHz / AMD A8-7600 APU 3.1 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 4GB
GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Ivy Bridge) or AMD Radeon R5 series (Kaveri line) with OpenGL 4.4
GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 400 Series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series with OpenGL 4.4
HDD: At least 1GB for game core, maps and other files
Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz / AMD A10-7800 APU 3.5 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 8GB
GPU: GeForce 700 Series or AMD Radeon Rx 200 Series (excluding integrated chipsets) with OpenGL 4.5
HDD: 4GB (SSD is recommended)
That said, the "loading" issues you mention could be due to a slow hard drive (note that they now recommend a SSD) or memory paging (allocating too much memory can cause this); note also that even the requirements for 1.6 recommend a dedicated GPU and older integrated graphics were particularly weak (lag spikes when updating blocks can be due to re-rendering chunks taking too long. Optifine has options that can reduce the impact of chunk updates but it can only do so much since at least one chunk has to be updated all at once; even on better computers lots of complex blocks like fences can cause significant lag spikes).
I tried older versions and I still have the same problem. I guess my computer isn’t that powerful enough to run Minecraft, but I’ll have to deal with it. But as I said earlier I’ll have to wait until we get the money for a new one...

Words of Warning: - You need a software (Clickteam Fusion 2) to run this game.
- The game will probably crash a lot.
- You will rage so much.
- This game is too easy for me. \_(^_^)_/

Moderatorthe fact that computer plays minecraft in itself is impressive as its well below the requirements, its an issue with the computer is just too old
I already know about that. I already checked the system requirements for Minecraft 1.13+.

You guys don’t seem to believe me at all.

Read this previous thread of mine and that will explain everything. (Even the title of this thread). I didn’t mean to troll people at all.

That computer is well below the requirements for Minecraft, New computer time!

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
I tried older versions and I still have the same problem. I guess my computer isn’t that powerful enough to run Minecraft, but I’ll have to deal with it. But as I said earlier I’ll have to wait until we get the money for a new one...
