I have been having problems with getting Forge 1.12.2 to run on Linux Mint. Every time I attempt to run Forge, the game crashes before even getting to the loading screen. I've tried to reinstall Forge and use different versions, but I still end up with the same problem. I'm not sure why and I don't see any log file in the logs directory. All I can provide is this:
There's your problem. Forge 1.12 and earlier only work with Java up to major version 8. Forge 1.13 is supposed to have Java 9+ support when it comes, which might be part of why it's taking so long for the release.
