I cannot get Minecraft to start it either freezes on startup or just continuously runs as a background process. I've re installed Java and Minecraft, restarted my computer multiple times and still nothing.

Get rid of Bonjour.
Uninstall Bonjour with this: http://arai.wordpress.com/2008/02/11/completly-uninstall-and-remove-bonjour-service-and-files-mdnsresponderexe-and-mdnsnspdll/
Also post your latest.log from C:/Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/logs.
