Running Java edition version 1.13.2 on Windows 7. I have found three buried treasure maps, and none of them show the icons I expect to see based on images from the web. As shown in the attached images:
When I am located off the edge of the map, a green icon appears on the edge showing the point I'm closest to.
When I am located on the map, no icon appears for my location at all.
There is no red 'X' showing the location of the treasure.
There is an odd orange shape near the top center of the map. This is in the same location on all three of the maps I've found.
Any help figuring this out will be greatly appreciated!

I wonder if it could have something to do with the texture pack you're using.
Brilliant! Thank you! Removing the texture pack solved my problem.
No problem, just saw that it was stylized and most often its the simplest of things that can make or break a problem.
