I'm desperately trying to get Minecraft 1.8.9 to launch. I get the Game Crash screen in the launcher. All later versions seem to work fine. Version 1.8 works fine. I've removed all mods. The only entries in the log file are:
[19:06:59] [Client thread/INFO]: Setting user: myusername
[19:06:59] [Client thread/INFO]: (Session ID is token: mytoken)
That's it. It never gets past that.
The launcher is 2.1.1462. The java version is: Java is Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, version 1.8.0_191, running on Windows 10:amd64:10.0. I'm running on Windows 10.

Run it, click Scan Now, once it completes the scan click Clean & Repair, restart the computer when it asks you to.

Thank you for the advice. I downloaded and installed both the full version of Malwarebytes and the AdwareCleaner you linked to. It did remove some adware/malware, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. The same thing occurs...only those 2 entries in the log file and nothing else when it crashes.
Reinstalling the launcher didn't help either. Any other things to try?

Run HijackThis as Administrator, choose "I accept", then "Do a system scan and save a log file". After a while a text file will open. Copy everything, put the log on https://paste.ubuntu.com and give us the link.
