We're using a brand new Lenovo Legion Y520 running the latest version of Windows 10. Logged into Minecraft.net. Bought Minecraft Java Edition. Installed Java, rebooted, installed Minecraft Java Edition. Opened app but it crashed ('not responding' message) almost immediately. Sometimes I do get through to the main page but after clicking play, it crashes on loading terrain. Looked through forums and have updated intel video drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled Java and Minecraft Java Edition but the same problem occurs. Can anyone help. We've been using Minecraft on an iPad and an iMac without issuses for a year so am finding this a bit confusing.
Thanks both for the help. I'll try going back to 1.12. This is for my daughter who says the Java version is the one needed for mods so we'll have to persevere with it for now.

You might not have enough memory allocated to MC.
1. Open the launcher
2. Click on Launch Options
3. Check Advanced Settings
4. Click on the Profile
5. Check the JVM Arguments line
6. Look for -Xmx. This sets the memory allocated. DON"T touch any other arguments.
You said your playing MC 1.12. That requires at least 4G allocated to run smoothly. Which means the PC needs at least 8G system RAM. Never allocated more than half the system RAM.
