ok, so i remembered the other day that i had bought minecraft quite awhile ago, and seeing as i had just built a new computer i decided to get some games.
i downloaded minecraft java, and i got the windows 10 edition free, but ive run into some strange inconsistencies.
minecraft windows 10 runs fine, windows java runs like burnt molasses.
its buggy as crap, i play on a 4k 3 monitor setup. when i open the launcher it opens in a tiny window in the middle of my main monitor, i can maximise it just fine, but then when i go to load the game it opens in a 1080p window, ok, so i thought ill just change resolutions and play with settings.
heres what ive done, and here are the results.
if i click fullscreen 1080p it acts full screen but takes up only a corner of my monitor, i can see the desktop behind it, if i click anything outside of the game it crashes.
if i maximise the window in 1080, i get in the game but i get framerates of 15-20, even with lowest settings.
if i set the fullscreen resolution (in game) to 3840/2160 the game game once again only takes up a corner of the screen and runs even worse.
if i set my desktop to 1080, then launch the game and set the game to 1080 and fullscreen, one of two things happen, either it takes up a corner of the screen again, or it balloons out and acts like the game window is 3840x2160, effectively four times the size of my monitor's settings.
within the launcher itself you can set the resolution you would like the game to launch at and weather or not you want it to be full screen, keep in mind Java is a hungry beast and has always caused issues in high resolutions, either wait for 1.14 and it's render engine overhaul or just stick with Bedrock. Bedrock is in a way 'minecraft 2' and is written significantly better from the ground up
java has thousands of mods and low performance
bedrock has only a handful of mods and very high performance
keep in mind java cannot play on bedrock servers and vice versa
