I have a minecraft world where I have spent hundreds on hours, in fact it is the only world I use. I have built a fully functional server out of command blocks.
Unfortunately, I accidentally put on a helmet that sets my max health attribute to 0, and with no health I instantaneously die whenever i try to respawn.
Say something silly, Laugh 'til it hurts, Take a risk, Sing out loud, Rock the boat, Shake things up, Flirt with disaster, Buy something frivolous, Color outside the lines, Cause a scene, Order dessert, Make waves, Get carried away, Have a great day!
It doesnt save my changes. I downloaded this NTB Editor, and I can go in and delete the items from my inventory, but it does not apply to the game. In other words, the changes made do not affect the actual game.

Remove the helmet or turn off keep inventory.

I cant get into the game to turn "keepinventory" off, nor can i get into the game to remove the helmet.
how?
Use an NBT editor like suggested by flanigomik.
Download NBTExplorer here:

you can-not have the game/server running while you make the change
Having the game closed still did not cause the changes to be saved
