I have an older PC that's in fairly desperate need of some upgrades, but I've successfully played modded MC on it for years and years with little issue. Maybe some occasional FPS stutter after playing a single session for a long time but nothing that reloading the world wouldn't fix.
Recently I purchased and installed a new video card, a Radeon RX570 (to replace my old Geforce GTX 295), and now I only get 1-2 FPS. Actually, at first, I was getting maybe a frame every 10 seconds, but after whittling down my mods to a more basic pack I get a frame or two.
Without mods the game runs *okay*. Maybe 30 FPS, definitely good enough for me to play, but then adding even just a few mods causes it to crawl. And these are just a portion of the same exact mods that I had installed before and it ran great.
I have new drivers for the gfx card, I updated Java, updated the mods, updated forge. The game loads and can generate a world and doesn't crash, just runs impossibly slowly with the new card. No other hardware in my PC was changed.
Anyone have any ideas? It's fairly frustrating, I wasn't really hoping for an FPS increase with the new card, but I expected at least the same performance as the card that's like 6 years old or something.
Oh and I'm running MC 1.12.2, I've tried the most recent and stable releases of forge.
Currently I'm just using the launcher default args (edited for 4G ram) but I've also tried quite a few other combinations. Some that I've used successfully in the past and some that I've found in other threads online, out of all the ones I've used they've never caused such dramatic FPS differences like this before.
And yes, I have an underwhelming CPU, especially for minecraft with a lot of mods but it played great with the other card so I'm skeptical that the chip has anything to do with it, but I dunno. /shrug
Also I've tried some of the simple obvious stuff, with and without optifine, or different versions. I just installed an older version of my graphics card drivers but got the same result (that's actually what the screenshot is from).
Wow, mipmaps did make a huge difference, just took 2 minutes to change the setting. I'd always figured the game crashed when I tried to change the setting before. Kinda disappointing that I need to turn graphics down with a new card but eh, I'll take what I can get. Thanks for your help, screenshot attached anyways.

Please redo the screenshot without that pop up notification in the top right corner. And try turning off mipmapping.
