So i have been playing minecraft for the past 2 months or so, without experiencing any issues. However, one day, out of nowhere, i started getting really bad lag spikes and fps drops (mostly spikes), and i realised that my laptop was running slowly and needed to be factory reset, so i reset it and everything was running much better (youtube and various other games) but minecraft is still lagging and i get really bad spikes to the point that it is unplayable. Help would be appreciated :D.

Say something silly, Laugh 'til it hurts, Take a risk, Sing out loud, Rock the boat, Shake things up, Flirt with disaster, Buy something frivolous, Color outside the lines, Cause a scene, Order dessert, Make waves, Get carried away, Have a great day!
I tried deleting and reinstalling and that worked... for about 10 minutes before reverting back to very fluctuating FPS, i get anywhere from 12 to 60, but most recently it maxes at 30 and spikes ALOT down to 12 for a second.

Try to turn off fancy clouds and reduce Java memory to 1024 and see if something get better first.

Thanks, I literally had render distance 2 chunks, smooth lighting off, fast graphics and it was EXACTLY the same, which is abit weird, I don't know how to do that java thing ur saying but its not like I'm just having lag, nothing has changed but the game just randomly started lagging one day and everything else is fine ( YouTube and csgo and a couple other games that used to lag before the reset).

To set Java memory to 1024m you have to edit the command line profile, which launcher are you using?
In the old launcher there's a Java Settings in the profile editor, here's a screenshot of the new launcher you can put 1G instead of 2G or 1024m (is just the same)

Ohh yea I did exactly that, I even went all the way from 1 to 8 G and it was exactly the same every time.

Try uncapping the frame rate. If it is capping at 60, maybe you have it on. If you let the game go to a higher frame rate, maybe the spikes can cushion off of the extra frames.
