started with an inability to login in due to server connection problem. Turned out AVG Secure VPN recently installed was interfering. AVG tech support confirmed this, but when I changed my password, Mojang wants me to pay for it again. How can if correct this?
Contact Mojang, they are the ONLY people that can help with account issues.

already removed the VPN. But Mojang email is currently answering msgs from Oct 1. not the timely service I would prefer.
All Mojang's 'help' areas are articles or references to places like a forum, or an email that they acknowledge won't get answered for 2-3 weeks. so where or who do I contact at Mojang so I can play the game? any help available?

minecraft help? the only official minecraft help is help.mojang.com and that does not send you here for account issues, the irc help channel would also not send you here but tell you the same others here have said, to contact Mojang

You're logging in to the wrong account.
And any issues with accounts needs to be brought up directly to Mojang, this forum cannot help.
