Hello! long time minecrafter and havent played in probably about 3-4 years. I recent re-downloaded minecraft and am trying to run it with the max render-distance # of chunks, but my frame-rate just plummets after being in the world for 6-10 seconds (I'm talking like 2-7 fps). Any ideas what I could need to increase this?
Specs:
I7 Processor 4.2 GHz
16 GB ram
Nvidia GTX 1080
I am also using 64bit java and minecraft is set to use the 64bit JRE. I'm lost at this point and out of ideas. Thanks everyone!
If you're running 1.10+ minecraft, there's an issue known as memory leakage and this can cause your fps to tank all the way down to 5-7 fps for a few seconds, and then running normally afterwards.
you may also have to allocate ram using the java argument -xmx#G to distribute the amount of ram, and allocating more than 6 gigs of ram can cause trash ram to accumulate and cause memory leaks as said before.
Check to see how much ram you are allocating to the launcher and then reduce the render distance if you're experiencing problems...
twitch launcher helps you set memory allocation easily and can be customized within each individual modpack.
Disable GeForce experience overlay or other overlays for that matter.

hope it helps.
Switching to twitch launcher and allocating almost 13 gigs of ram seems to have fixed it. Im guessing that using the java arguments would fix this as well. I will report back if I have anything else go wrong, but right now Im hovering around 50fps+ depending on how many chunks are updating. Thank you so much!

How about just turning down the render distance?
I have had no issues with this on earlier versions. Why now? I have the hardware, why not?
