I recently got myself a shiny new gaming laptop! As such I was obviously excited to try out Minecraft on a system that really should have no problems running it. For the most part, the game has become entirely unplayable due to very hard lag spikes that cause the game to continuously freeze for 2-5 seconds in intervals of 5 to 10 seconds! Painful lag spikes one after another, these especially occur when loading chunks, even ones I've loaded before.
I have noticed this problem on both singleplayer (especially the new buffet world types) as well as on my multiplayer server.
My specs are as follows:
16gb ram
8 core i7 7th gen processor @ ~2.8GHz
Geforce GTX 1050 GPU
Windows 10 x64(I am running Java edition because the original is the best, screw these other versions)
Now considering my old laptop ran minecraft quite smoothly with maybe half as much of a beasty build, this system that is specifically designed to run games really shouldn't be having these issues. Makes me kind of disappointed!
I'm sure there are dozens of posts about these issues all over the internet but I am getting really tired of googling leading to heaps of 'I have the same problem' complainers.. less problems, more fixes please! Hopefully someone has some insight here!
Screenshot attached. Come to think of it, I forgot to adjust the amount of ram the game can use... might be a rookie mistake that's costing me precious, precious performance!
It doesn't appear to even be enabled, still shows the 'get started' option and I've never seen nor heard it interfere with the game before. I did adjust the java args to allow for more RAM which seems to have helped
