The 1.13 update came out for Minecraft sometime mid July I believe. I had several years-worth of creations that I had been building upon on and off. I tried out my world on 1.13 and everything was fine. I went back to the 1.12 version because it had Optifine. However, when the 1.12 world loaded, all of my creations were gone, there was not a trace of anything I had made since day 1. I thought "no big deal, I'll just go back to 1.13." I do so and I find that it's the same story. When I was in 1.13 before, everything was there. Going back to 1.12 somehow made it lose everything. I do not believe any of the save files have all my creations saved anymore and so everything is lost. I don't think there's a fix but if there is, please let me know. It's really disappointing to have lost the result of so much creative effort.
As always, downgrading is not, was never and will never be officially supported. Please do not run 1.13 worlds in older versions of Minecraft.
Restore your world from a backup.

1.13 changed the world format, hence the message about converting world when it loaded, 1.12 can't read that format properly.
You broke the world by trying to load it in multiple versions like you did, typically minecraft worlds can go forward version wise, but not back, and backups save many issues
Minecraft MIGHT have made a backup in .minecraft/backups when you first converted the world, if it didn't then it is gone, should have listened to the warning minecraft gives about changing versions

So I found the backup folder, how exactly do I re-implement it? Sorry, not tech savvy here.
if the world is just in a folder, copy it back to worlds, if it is zipped, decompress it then copy it back to worlds
