So in the twitch app, when i chose the option to create custom profile and was prompted with the options for game version and etc, i chose the 1.12 option. Naturally, the forge-14.23.4.2744 (newest) ModLoader is chosen.
First the gamefile for 1.12 is downloaded as normal, but when it tries to download the forge-files i get the error message shown:
No idea why this is happening, but I did try to remedy the issue by looking up the latest version of Forge for 1.12.2. It seems that Twitch is trying to use a version of Forge that doesn't exist yet. The newest version of Forge available on their website (Google "forge 1.12.2") is 14.23.3.2675, while Twitch is attempting to download 14.23.4.2744. This can be remedied by selecting the aforementioned version of Forge on the drop-down when you create a new profile.
While writing this, I decided to test my hypothesis, and it seems that that's actually not the newest version of Forge available. If you launch Minecraft with the above version, it'll say in the bottom right, "New Forge Version available: 14.23.4.2705." I decided to try making a profile with this version, and it worked. I kept going up by 5s, and every single Forge version worked, except for the versions ending with 2740-2745. 2739 works just fine, so I'm using that one.
Started up 2739 with Thaumcraft, JEI, and some of its integration addons installed, and it works just fine. Hope this helps.
After some time i actually ended up doing the same thing as you, using the 2739, and yeah it seems to work just fine. I tried changing the forge version to the newer ones after creating the 39 profile, but with no luck. Might be as you say that Twitch is attempting to use a version that doesn't exist.
