I've used OptiFine for years, and I have had no issues with getting it to use the nVidia card on my gaming laptop until now (two graphics cards, nVidia and Intel, which can force specific applications to use one or the other).
But all of a sudden, I can get the MC java itself to use the nVidia card, but I can not get OptiFine to use the nVida card.
I have Googled the daylights out of this and the only fix I find is to get java to use the nVidia card, which I have known how to do for years, but nothing on getting OptiFine to use it. I have reinstalled OptiFine a few times, tried older versions of OptiFine, and restarted my computer, of course.
There should be no difference whether you have Optifine installed or not, there is no "adding Optifine to Nvidia's list". You add the Java version MC is running on to the list.

This is exactly how I understand it, which is why I am so confused. Java MC is on the list, of course, and it uses the nVidia card. But when I launch OptiFine, the game plays, but it only uses the Intel card.
For now I have just told the laptop to use nVidia for everything, so now OptiFine uses the nVidia card, but so does everything on the computer, so the fans are always going nuts and it's obviously not the best solution.

Any ideas?

"Java MC is on the list" but is the specific Java version which your optifine profile is using on the list?
