Hello, I am here because I am on my last legs of trying to figure out this problem myself...
Minecraft has a problem running on my gaming pc... it has 16GB of ram, and when I try to allocate more, it just stays at 256 mb all the time. It lags so hard, and the lag spikes fly off of the chart. I have Java 1.8.0_171 64 bit. I am running WIndows 10 64 bit also. My graphics card is up to date also. I have yet to try a 32 bit java, but I do not know if that would solve my problem. I have tried optifine only to find the same outcome... I have become very upset with this situation. Hopefully someone here can help.
I have the output screenshot here too for those who want to take a look at that.
Computer specs
Nvidia 1070 Asus Stryx ROG
16GB Ram Corsair DDR3 (2 sticks of 8)
Asus z270 motherboard (just in case you need that too)
You have -Xmx256M in the _JAVA_OPTIONS variable in your environment settings, To remedy this,
Press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key simultaneously
A window should popup, click on "Advanced system settings"
Click on "Environment Variables"
Delete the _JAVA_OPTIONS entry.
