I have been trying since last night to get Minecraft to work. At first, I thought it was the whole entire game that wouldn't start, but ended up only being Optifine that was the issue. I cannot seem to figure out why Optifine is not working at all. Not even versions I have confirmed that have worked with Linux before work anymore. Here is my Neofetch:

I have proprietary drivers installed, as well as the AMD microcode. Other games seem to work fine, aswell as other java applications that I have tested.

I am using the official Minecraft Launcher. Not the jar, but the .deb package provided from here by Dinnerbone. I had to do a few things to get it properly working on 18.04, but it runs and works fine afterwards. The only thing that doesn't work is Optifine.

/Secondary/ is my hard drive, as I boot off a small SSD. I have a sym link going from ~/.minecraft to /Secondary/Games/.minecraft since that is where my 'passed around for ages' folder is.

The .jar file won't even allow me to start a game, as it won't even connect to the internet.

1.12.2 and the 1.13 snapshots work fine. I cannot figure out the problem. Is it a missing package, or a conflicting package? Please help.

Bumping to say that there are no crash reports in the logs folder. Not even the launcher logs have the crash. I would have liked to use the newer launcher, but I might have to run the jar instead and figure out what is wrong with it.

I just found out the problem when trying to make Optifine work on the jar. Seems like it was more of a java problem than Minecraft itself.

Solution: Either you need to uninstall openjdk-11-jre and openjdk-11-jdk in Ubuntu, or reconfigure every one of your profiles with the path for Java 8 if you already have that installed. If you remove openjdk-11*, then you need to use the --reinstall flag with install with openjdk-8* so that it re-configures your java path.
