Hey! Today I decided to revisit Minecraft with a few mods. I used to play the game with over a hundred mods very often, so my computer is fully capable of running mods. I was trying to play the "Life in the Woods" modpack which is for the 1.6.4 version of Minecraft. I installed the modpack using a Skydaz installer and am trying to run the modpack on Forge version 9.11.1.965. However, I can not seem to even run the game with Forge or any mod. This goes for both the new launcher and the old launcher. I even installed Java 7 to see if the game would run properly on that. I use my computer every day, but I'm not very tech-savvy, so please be patient with me. After I press "play" in the new launcher, the launcher disappears as usual but the game never starts. For the old launcher, the launcher stays but the game never starts.
Here's the log I get in the old launcher from me trying multiple times to start the game:
I noticed that the launcher is repeatedly trying to download the Forge version jar and this seems to be the cause of the failure since I do not get a bunch of repeated attempts at downloading the jar for my own (non-Forge) modded instances; I Googled the error and came across this post on the Forge forums:
For reference, this is part of the launcher log from launching my own modded game; I'm not sure what exactly is different but after a single 403 Forbidden error there is no stack trace or repeated attempt at downloading the jar, and on the next line it assumes that the local file is good with no failures mentioned:

[0528/221512:INFO:GameCallbacks.cpp(178)] launcher/launcher (main) info Minecraft client World1 is ready to start.
Here is the game output (from a different launch), which again only shows a single 403 error when trying to download the jar:
Another possibility is that changes to how the launcher handles modified jars had broken the Forge installer (they have made it increasingly more complicated to install mods; at one time you only had to rename a copy of the version, then you had to edit the json to remove the download URL and hash for the jar), but since this is not a common issue and similar errors on the Forge forums are followed up with a reply to download the official version of Forge I presume that you tried installing an unofficial copy of Forge (in general, only download mods from their official sites, never from sites like these).
(FWIW, the Java 8 error on Forge occurs after the game has launched and is a ConcurrentModificationException; I see no indication of the OP's game even launching)
1.) I'm sure I downloaded Forge from that location, unless some site completely copied the Forge site. I did reinstall Forge from the official site just to be safe anyway.
2.) I gave up and decided to see which mods were updated for 1.12.2, and got most of the mods from the modpack. Not exactly what I wanted, but it's good enough.
Thanks so much for the help, though!!

Curse PremiumThe launcher is using Java 8. You'll need to manually set the Java version in the launcher.
Also this:
https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/minecraft-mods/2206446-forge-1-6-4-1-7-2-java-8-compatibility-patch
"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
That's odd, I set the launcher to Java 7. Did I not do it right? I have no idea what I'm doing.
edit: followed the instructions in the link you posted, still got the same error & error message.

Did you download Forge from the official source?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
1.) I'm sure I downloaded Forge from that location, unless some site completely copied the Forge site. I did reinstall Forge from the official site just to be safe anyway.
