There's about six months that I'm trying to make an useful and happyful world in the 1.12.2 Minecraft Version...
I already had a lot of issues about Mob Farms (those that you make a dark place to spawn mobs, and drop them to give you their items).
In all my tries, they always never spawned. I made a lot of them, I messed on the gamerules... and nothing. I play in OPEN FOR LAN with my friend (only us) and we had some frustrations with this map.

P.S.: The difficulty was locked NORMAL, but I changed to HARD with the command /difficulty

Optifine has a setting which disables all mob spawns, try messing with that.
We go in without the Optifine and the problem continues ...

Increase your render distance to at least 10.
I've already increased to about 14
