My copy of Minecraft just disappeared off my desktop completely, its not even in the trash. I cannot find it anywhere and I don’t want to buy it again.
The folder for MC is usually hidden. Try enabling Hidden Folders in the File Explorer settings (I assume your using Windows).
He said it disappeared from his desktop. The Desktop folder is usually not hidden. So it could possibly be some really weird malware that targets Minecraft for deletion, or him accidentally deleting it. In that case, it's a shortcut, which means simply searching Minecraft.exe can find the exe file; then simply right-click the exe, send to desktop (create shortcut).

I should have specified which folder. I was suggesting searching in File Explorer before downloading MC again.
