Hi Guys,

I have installed Minecraft on my Linux Mint 18.3 computer and can play Singleplayer with no problem, but when I try to play multiplayer I keep getting this error when trying to connect to a server.

Failed to connect to the server

Failed to login: Invalid session (Try restarting your game and the launcher)

I have tried restarting/logging out then back in but it doesn't seem to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that is an authentication error, are you connected to the internet when you start minecraft?

Other things that can cause this are firewalls blocking Minecraft, AVs blocking Minecraft or illegitimate copies of Minecraft

I have turned off the firewall and Anti-virus, restarted my computer and still no change.

Because I am running Linux I have the demo version downloaded from minecraft.net

That's your problem, the demo although legitimate is not 'premium' and therefore cannot connect to premium servers. You'll either need to download the Linux launcher or buy the game (if you haven't bought Minecraft for PC already)

I didn't want to buy the game until I knew it all worked properly. Hence the demo version.
