Hello all. First-time post with a frustrating issue. I've always been one who likes to figure things out themselves, so I've never visited a forum, or wikis, all that often. I am a long, long-time console player, and recently dove into the PC/Java version (well, I used to play an old demo version offline a lot, but wanted the full version with all of the new additions).
Not sure if this is correct section to post this, but here goes: once in a while I'll be walking around and get stuck as if I am attached to a wall by invisible glue or something. I try to move and I jerk back and forth as if being held. It could even be in a large area with no major obstructions — ladders, stairs, etc. — just against an un-mined wall. Did a bit of research and I've read somewhere this is, possibly, a known issue and it has something to do with 'ungenerated areas?" However, the posts I am finding are 6 or 8 years old. Furthermore, the areas I am getting stuck in are not just new areas, but areas that are already mapped out and explored.
Tonight I've run into this were it caused a major setback. I was in the Nether, midway on the health bar, while being attacked by a Blaze and Ghast. While on stairs, I turned to run, eat and heal, and got stuck. I could not move in any direction, but had free space to move in all direction but one. I kept jerking (shaking?) back and forth. After panicking and only have 3 hearts left, I broke free and found myself in a free fall towards lava with no land in site. Now, the curious thing is, where I was at there was only solid ground/fortress around me. It is as if I glitched to different area, or beneath where I was standing. What really make this so frustrating I was fully loaded with a lot of great stuff in my inventory (including an elusive saddle I've been searching for for quite some time) and was about to head back home with my loot!
I've been playing for awhile and have had no major issues, so I am grateful for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am playing 1.12.2 on a PC. Not sure if any additional info would help.

Next time restart the world and see if it was an invisible block.
