OK, I'm a mom with only some knowledge of fixing and changing things in Minecraft. I know enough that I've set it up, and have forge running with several mods going for my kid. On April 1st, the whole thing went crazy, along with everyone else's. But ours never reset. It still looks like a bad attempt at 3D (weird red and blue lines around everything; I think my kid said the textures look cartoony as well).
I've tried searching through the forum for tech help, and I've seen various suggestions to try. I did find a 1.12-af file in my assets folder. I pulled it out to the desktop and started up minecraft, but the weirdness is still there. Looking into the objects folder I see files mixed throughout that were updated on 4/1, but I've got no idea what they are or what they do, so I'm reluctant to just start pulling them out.
I've seen people recommend installing a vanilla texture pack, but I've also seen others say that doesn't work for the weird visual effects. So, what now?
Hmm having the textures remain after April Fools is pretty weird. I'm sure you can go in and manually remove the files but like you said that would be tedious and leave room for error. I think the best advice I can give is to uninstall and reinstall Minecraft. If you are playing with mods, you will also have to reinstall those mods. And DO NOT FORGET to make a copy of your worlds before deleting Minecraft so they aren't deleted. If you don't know how to do that here's a quick rundown:
Search "%appdata%" in File Explorer (without quotes, and assuming you're on a PC).
Open the .Minecraft folder and locate a folder in it called "Saves".
All the folders in there are your worlds, copy them onto your desktop.
Delete the .Minecraft folder then download Minecraft again from Minecraft.net
Put those folders back into the new "Saves" folder (you may have to run Minecraft at least once in order for that folder to appear).

Turn off 3D Anaglyph...
That worked; thanks so much!
