I do love playing around in Minecraft, it's default textures have a uniquely kitsch 8-bit feel to them which takes me back. However, due to the annoyance of the April Fool's prank I was forced to seek other resource packs in order to play the game. I have since not wanted to go back, it looks so pretty!
However, I am at a loss for configuring Java applications to utilize the advanced graphics, or perhaps I just don't know gaming options all that well. I long ago knew I wasn't going to develop games so I honed my skills in database mining, and application development instead of games, and since then (18 years ago) games and graphics have exploded far beyond my knowledge.
I have a rather powerful gaming system, or at least almost top of the line two years ago - maybe year an a half. But when i try to jack certain settings in Minecraft I get rather poor FPS. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but If i can play Quantum Break and the most recent evolution of DOOM at damn near Ultra settings, I should be able to have the best of the best experience with Minecraft.
Thus, I come here and seek the wisdom of others who might know how to configure all the little details to get the most out of my machine and my Minecraft.
Hardward Specs:

Minecraft:
Java 1.12.2 Edition
- Launcher configured to use 6GB RAM

Forge 14.23.2.2611
OptiFine (Most recent version for 1.12.2)

With all this, I've played with the settings a bit, leaving some default, but upping others to get the better effects based upon what I've seen in other games, but with Shaders active I seem to average at ~25FPS. It may spike from to time, but it also dips quite a bit - especially when there is a lot going on and I'm sprinting over distances.
I can provide settings and screen shots if it would be helpful, but all in all I figure there is something that I've got tweaked that just isn't compatible or something.
Of course, I was playing last night with the Optifine (internal) shaders, and thought to look into a new shader pack after looking into something completely unrelated regarding the R3D Craft resource Pack. (The banner object won't hold color with those resources. Even though i have it colored blue, it is displayed as white. When i switch to the default resource pack the banner was blue again)
Knowing the shaders have nothing to do with that, I saw some of their info regarding using the SEUS shaders. Before i had tried others but thought, that if the makers of R3D recommend a shader pack, i'll try it. That's when i noticed yet again the lag in the FPS and wrote that post.
Closed out of Minecraft, and went to sleep.
Now, I jumped back in to get that screen shot and the memory looked off. i checked the memory, seeing that I was wrong in my assessment of 6GB and it was really 4GB. So i upped it to 8GB (i've got 24 so, why not?). This time Minecraft loaded from the start with both the shader pack and the resource pack (not loaded during UI settings, but fresh from boot) and the damn program decides to make a liar out of me. Hovering between 30 and 45 FPS. This is still not optimal, but farcry better than the 14-29FPS I was seeing last night. :|
EDIT: I have found that when night falls, the FPS does drop a little, probably due to added shadow processing and dynamic lighting. When i drop into my mine and then come back up to my house it can dip to 21FPS but immediately snaps back to ~30FPS.
Well, that is both a yes and no.
Having been gaming since DOS 5.1 on DOS4gw machines that barely had 4mb of ram, i can say with certainty the amount of memory does affect performance including FPS. If a game is constantly having to read data from the HD cache, everything slows down. But that is simply a breaking point. I believe that upping of memory simply compensated better for the resource pack i was using, allowing it to be fully loaded into memory without hindering the engine needs. Upping it again to say 12gb wouldn't improve performance any more, since i'm past that breaking point.

Post a screenshot with F3 enabled and your JVM arguments.

Minecraft uses as much RAM as it needs, assigning more won't help. Disable GeForce experience overlay.
Um. Not to be a complete moron, but how?
I don't have the GeForce experience configured for Minecraft at all. And i don't have the "in-game overlay" active (i don't think)
Thank

Well, he did see a major FPS jump after he allocated 8gb of RAM.
According to his screenshots MC uses about 37 % of those 8 gigs. So half of it would be enough. And more RAM does not mean more FPS.
Well, that is both a yes and no.
