Okay, so I've tried everything to fix this. Minecraft used to get 250+ FPS normally and with shaders, it was 60+ on 1.10. I haven't played in a long time and all of a sudden I get on and the framerate won't go above 60 in vanilla, with shaders it won't go above 30. VSync is not on and my Max FPS is on unlimited.
I've allocated 8Gb of my 16 Gb's of RAM to Minecraft, I have an Intel i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz, 16 Gb RAM, 1 Tb HDD, and a Nvidia GTX960M (equal to GTX 750Ti performance-wise).
I reinstalled Java, I downloaded Optifine, downloaded the BetterFPS mod (gave me about 8 Frames), I've gone through everything in the Nvidia control panel, drivers are all updated, settings in-game have been tested, etc. It's just weird that this is happening and frustrating.
Might want to google the original video drivers for your computer. Uninstalling the most recent and using the manufacturer default drivers can fix this problem, as I had to deal with it before. Also, try going to Task Manager, going to details(if you have Windows 8 or 10, processes for Windows 7) and right click javaw.exe. Then go to set priority, and click that, then in the little menu that shows up to the right select high. Java will then be high priority for your computer, and it will prioritize running it over everything else that's not also high priority.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Where would I find those drivers? I looked it up and I get specs on my graphics card but I can't find it. I also tried setting the priority high, didn't do much to change it.

Now that I think about it, rolling back the drivers is a simple way. Open device manager,>display adapter>choose the card>rollback driver

I actually ended up installing the default driver. That didn't work (it actually lowered the frames), so I went back to the newest driver. I could try roll back but wouldn't that just take me to the default driver that I downloaded earlier?

Rollback can actually go as far back as the driver that was installed with the computer when it was made. You could also try backing up Minecraft and factory resetting your computer, which would set all drivers back to when the computer was built.

I remember when everyone had that 'I am 0% Noob' signature. lol
Oh, and for the OP, you could try some different shaders and see which ones like your setup better.
My setup is supposed to run it at 200+ frames. It did last year when I played it. It also got 50+ frames with shaders. I dont know what the issue is I tried to uninstall then reinstall but that didnt work so im not sure.
That would frustrate me too, especially if Minecraft used to run awesome.
Here's a simple thing to try if you're playing on a laptop. Play Minecraft while your laptop is plugged into the wall power outlet. My laptop throttles down to a frame cap of 30 if I play off battery, and hundreds of FPS if it's plugged into mains power.
Another thing to try would be to test out the new 1.13 snapshot, since Mojang overhauled the game and it's supposed to be more optimized. But don't open a favorite world in the snapshot that wasn't created with the snapshot! The overhaul completely changed how entity and block data is stored, and it would trash your world if you try to open it back up in the version that the level was created.
Puppet I am playing on a laptop, and that issue with the frames is caused from nVidia battery boost. you can change it in GeForce Experience by opening it then going to Settings (in the top right, gear symbol), Game, and disabling battery boost.
yes I'm on windows 10, I already uninstalled Xbox DVR if thats what you were going to suggest.
i was going to suggest that, realized i already did though its hard to keep track, make sure that your graphics drivers are up to date too. not from windows but from the nvidia driver tool.
also as something random that fixed this for people try turning off animated terrain in optifine video settings
Nico, I'm fairly positive this fixed it. I opened minecraft, changed it to windowed mode, it ran perfectly, then changed it back to fullscreen and its working again. Not sure why that fixed it at all, but it did!

Disable GeForce experience overlay.
Tried it, didn't work :/

Just tried rolling the drivers back, didn't work either, only hurt the fps. I really have no idea what's wrong with this.

Then the only thing I can suggest is factory resetting your computer and reinstalling Minecraft afterwards.

if you are playing on windows 10 disable Xbox DVR, it's a killer

Hey man I have almost the same exact specs. Play on windowed mode because the past few windows update messed up the nvidia M cards
