So I crafted my first fishing pole in my latest world. Fish and salmon didn't show up in my inventory (I did get the experience from fishing, and the rod is showing wear.) I did get to keep my pufferfish. Any ideas what's going on?
I've fished tons in other worlds, I know I caught several fish and one salmon, and got the experience points, but the fish did not go into my inventory. The puffer fish did. I never had that happen before, and apparently it's not a common issue as web searching was no help.
Any ideas? It wouldn't break my heart to just recreate this world, I haven't done a lot of work in it yet, but it's such a weird thing to have happen...
There is no way this can possibly be caused by a "glitched" world - the game just does not work that way - it doesn't care at all about the world you are in when choosing what loot fishing gives you (speaking as a modder with extensive knowledge of how the game works, as well as what is/isn't possible in the form of "glitches"). Most likely, the fish are not going into your inventory because they are flying past you, which I've had happen to me before and it appears to depends on your relative position (usually they will fly into you and be picked up).
Or, do you have any custom loot tables enabled? They can change what you get by fishing and are specific to a world; if the "data" folder within the world save folder contains a "loot_tables" subfolder and that has a "gameplay\fishing" subfolder that is most likely it. Note: these folders only exist if you added a custom loot table, so this is not contrary to the first statement above (it is also extremely unlikely that the game itself has been corrupted since the launcher will redownload any files that do not match the checksums on Mojang's servers unless you take multiple measures to bypass it).

Not common indeed, so it works in other worlds, but not in a particular world? Which MC version?
Java edition, 1.12.2

Create a test world in creative and get a fishing rod. Try to fish.
If it works, your world is glitched. You probably have to start over.
If not, reinstall 1.12.2.
I support Phantom Additions:

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Well what do you know... the fish were in the water, right at the edge where I was standing.
I feel like a derfwad, but I've been playing since last fall and this is the first time that's happened.
Thank you!
