For the record, I am playing Java Edition on Windows 10.
For longer than a week I have not been able to play multiplayer minecraft because "The Authentication Servers are currently down for maintenance." While I understand that this could be an actual thing and I probably just need to wait, the whole thing just seems a little suspicious.
For one thing, I can see on a server's banner that other players are on the server. I understand that mcleaks and those types of programs will allow players to bypass the authentication servers, but there are 59 players on one server that I play on; way too many to all be using this.
So I've been researching the issue. I searched "authentication servers down for maintenance 2018". The only results I got were from sites like "downdetector.com", and I didn't know how reliable these sites were. I did find an old minecraft forum post saying that he had a similar problem, he checked the status and the servers were in fact up. Some people said to make sure java was updated to the latest version. I did this and it did not change anything, which is not surprising because I knew that mc comes with its own version of java. The guy then said he fixed it himself, but he did not share how. I checked Mojang's service status, but the status is not loading. If I go to the website, each service will say 'Checking Status...' and not ever change, even after the rest of the page loads. It feels like the page just stopped checking. Upon inspection of the page I saw several 'uncaught error' messages in the console box. Mojang Status' twitter account has nothing.
Which brings me to my purpose in posting this. Anyone who replies, please mention whether you can or cannot join servers, and how long you have not been able to join servers if applicable. I wouldn't usually ask for location and I don't even think location has anything to do with this, but it also could be helpful information. If anyone else had or knows anyone who had this issue, is there anything I should try? Can someone go to help.mojang.com and verify that the servers are up or not? If the servers are up, can you inspect (right-click > inspect) the page and tell me if you get error messages in the console?
Edit: I just now tried turning off my firewall; I hadn't before because I've been using my antivirus long before this issue started occurring. And it was as I expected, there was no change without the firewall.

Thank you for your time.
You've mentioned Mcleaks, have you been using it?
No, not at all. I only have heard of it, mostly in researching this issue. I have only ever used an account that I bought from mojang.
