I just started a new world in 1.12.2 I spawned near a jungle biome but when I went to it my fps went to 100 to 20 I never had this problem before I even have another world that has a jungle biome but in a different version (1.9) and I didn't have any lag in it I try putting my graphics on fast still didn't help I have Optifine to and still is very laggy please help and its also when I look at it too if im not looking at it im fine but when im in it or looking at it my fps going to 20 -10
Could also be chunk updates... If you set the gamerule RandomTickSpeed up from its default (I do it to get crops to grow faster), then jungles will really drag down your fps due to growing vines, growing cocoa pods, leaves decaying, etc. Something you can do is to reduce your viewing distance so you're not modifying as many chunks within your viewing radius (should be somewhere in your Minecraft video settings), or you can bury yourself while looking at a jungle and then go eat a sandwich while the chunk updates settle down.

it's probably caused by all the leaves - turn fast graphics on and compare.
