I usually don't turn to forums but I feel like I've exhausted every other possible option. I don't play minecraft often because of how many problems it strangely has with my computer, but recently my brother showed me an amazing Harry Potter world mod and I'm really interested in playing again. The problem is every time I join I'll experience some lag and be kicked out after ~5-10 minutes of playing. The problem isn't specific to this server either, it's any private world I try to connect to. I get various messages ranging from the server timing out to being kicked off by the private host (that one even shows up when the host isn't even online). My computer doesn't really seem able to diagnose the problem.
It isn't a wifi issue because my brother is playing on the same connection as I am (and it occurs on all connections). He is also playing on a Macbook Pro, whereas I am playing on an extremely capable Windows (i7 processor, 8gb RAM, solid state, healthy machine overall). I've updated all my Java plugins, re downloaded the Minecraft client, dedicated more RAM to the game (it was 2gb now it's 4gb), all of my graphic settings are minimum, and loaded the game without any resource packs or skins at all.
I'm also very confused because his Macbook runs the game MUCH more smoothly on high graphics than mine, which is laggy even with the lowest possible setting. His laptop is 5 years old and mine is 4, and I also always thought that Windows were typically more game-compatible than Macs, but mine seems to be struggling with a simple block game like Minecraft even though it can run other Java games with higher graphics just fine (Runescape in HD).
I am 100% out of ideas and so I concede and turn to the masters. Please help
