download the latest graphics drive from your provider , if need run a repair.

1. Minecraft runs on OpenGL, not DirectX.
2. There are NO drivers for his card under Win 8, as his system is so old, even his card manufacturer stopped providing drivers for it.
3. Even after downgrading to older OS, that computer does not meet Minecraft's system requirements and would run terribly. New computer time.
There is a fairly simple way to actually solve the problem. The problem is caused by your graphics card not being up to date. Make sure to update it's drivers now and then since automatic updates aren't always there and instead you should stay aware of what drivers your devices are running on.

P.S. I am fully aware that this looks like a letter but it felt fun also this should work, atleast it worked for me.
Did you bother to read the other posts, the OPs computer is too old and there are NO drivers for it on the OS in use, updating drivers can not be done

i have this issue with a brand now extremely kitted box , it is a combined failure in the directx and graphics driver.
when this happens you can test if it persists by restarting your computer and check if minecraft starts up again , if it does then my statement above is for your situation.
