Been playing Age Of Engineering and about a week ago the game started lagging. I hadn't done any major changes in-game, been just building a house just to have a change of pace. So no laggy machines or stuff added in that time.
I can play about 5-10 min when the crazy lagspikes start, the debug pie shows 'root.sound' popping to about 15% after every spike. I have upgraded every driver that I could, have played with different RAM settings, no help.
I tried different modpacks that I have played lagfree in the past, but the same lag appears now in those worlds, that are in 1.7 minecraft. I've tried reinstalling the modpack and minecraft.
Any idea how to fix this, or how to find the cause of this??
Yes, I had the same issue. I'm pretty sure the issue was with Avast anti-virus. Once I uninstalled it, Minecraft ran smoothly again. Check your anti-virus program. Even if you had no issues before like me, there may have been an update that is now causing lag. It took me a long time to pinpoint the problem because I have no idea what the anti-virus program has to do with sound.
If it works, any tips on which anti-virus program to replace the Avast? I've used it for years so I'm not familiar with good alternatives. Or could there be some setting, or something in Avast that I could turn off or change to make it work without uninstalling Avast?

Avast is one of the worst anti-virus programs, so basically whatever you get it will be better. Just keep in mind this "Free anti-virus = bad anti-virus" I suggest looking into a payed alternative.
