As in the title, the block lag in 1.12.2 as well as the most recent snapshot is so bad that it is preventing me from playing single player. It is the worst on the Caves of Chaos preset, however the block lag seems to be universal in degrees, all of which are somewhat more than I am willing to contend with. Sometimes blocks just don't break. However literally every single other performance qualification is totally normal. There appears to be significant load on my cpu, a 4 core 2.3GHz i5, and I can't find anyway to bring it down to desirable levels, and chiefly it does seem to be originating from Minecraft itself. How do I stop this madness?
-I've just discovered that this issues extends to attempting to eat, which I simply cannot do, as well as items cooking in the furnace.
Looks to me like you are in amplified terrain. That brings a whole load on the CPU, especially when generating new chunks. Either fly around and pregenerate new chunks or turn down your render distance even more.

Post a screenshot with F3 enabled and your JVM arguments.
JVM: -Xmx2G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=16M
And F3:
It almost seems like its an issue with being too close to spawn, I may have to move house.

I am indeed!
I'll have to give that a try, thank you.
