I seem to have a problem similar to [Bug Tracker]. I have a windows 10 pc with Avast and every time I run the standard launcher I get the following error:
The only way I have found to get around this is to click the Close button on the error, and then click the Play button on the launcher. I have to repeat this process 12-30 times and eventually it will launch the game. Can any help point me in a direction to look to solve this problem? I appreciate any help!
Thanks for the suggestion. I double checked and I don't have any of the listed software. I do have a NVidia Control Panel that runs in the back ground through. Just incase it is similar to the GeForce Experience, I exited the Nvidia program, went into task manager and closed all the NVidia processes that were running. Tried launching Minecraft again, but got the same error as before.
I think the only thing not in the list of problematic software currently is Reason Security, if you have that remove it the same way it instructs for Bytefence. If not do the following.
ADWCleaner is an utility to clean a PC which has potential malware/adware, which is a common cause for the problem you have. Download it here: https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/
Run a Scan, Clean anything it finds, restart the computer and then try the game again, you may need to do one more reinstall (clearing .minecraft of everything but saves) after.
I ran the ADWCleaner software and it found nothing. I am thinking this may be more of a networking problem. Any ideas on how to track down a networking issue?
Hi All,

Did you check for both bytefence and any of the other problematic programs that are linked to by the notice in that bug tracker report?

Thanks. I will give that a try when I have a chance.

ok, I got a copy of Fiddler and it looks like when the Minecraft launcher tries to get http://resources.download.minecraft.net/a2/a2949d15e97dc317daa7cc03f1f39af6ce7fe4f5 it is throwing a 504 error which appears to be a Gateway Timeout, which can be any number of things
So I was able to down load the above link from a computer not on my network. Then I put it in the following folder and the launcher worked!
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\objects\a2
