I use a VPN for security and privacy and cannot start minecraft when I am connected to it. I have to turn it off and adjust the firewall every time I want to play it. I am not connecting to any servers so I don't really understand why it's doing this and its a real pain.
I use the VPN for other programs and other purposes. I never play multiplayer or connect to any servers. I can simply switch the VPN off but this involves changing some settings and can take up to 3 minutes each time, and putting my other programs at risk.
If you need a VPN and don't want to turn it off use a paid option that gives you a unique IP, otherwise if you get a shared IP you are at the mercy of the anti-hacking measures put in place and will likely always be blocked from reaching the login services.

ModeratorDoes minecraft work without the vpn? If so the vpn is the issue. There is no real need to use one when gaming.
yes, that is true. the only reason I'm thinking for using a VPN is so the server owners cant /IP ban you
