Ok, so I've been having this problem for about three months:
So, when I try loading Minecraft, when it reaches the Mojang screen, the game completely freezes and stops responding. I've narrowed down to the problem being 1.8 and higher. I used to be able to play those versions, but now something seems to have changed.
Here are the things that I've tried:
Downloading Java with the 64-bit online downloader (No errors, and yes, my computer is 64 bit)
Downloading Java with the offline downloader (No errors)
Reinstalling minecraft (Twice)
Updating graphic cards (Though, I am not certain that this worked, I did download them and ran through all the steps.)
You got any crash report or log so we can see the source of the error? Do you force-update when you reinstalled? (deleted .minecraft and tried to play minecraft via new minecraft launcher, so it downloads everything)
Are you running a mod? If yes, what mods? Try to give us maximum info so we can find the source.
ADWCleaner is an utility to clean a PC which has potential malware/adware, which is a common cause for the problem you have. Download it here: https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/
Run a Scan, Clean anything it finds, restart the computer and then try the game again, you may need to do one more reinstall (clearing .minecraft of everything but saves) after.
